Beth Chen

Beth Chen is a pianist known for her virtuosic performances that fuse expressive depth with technical brilliance. A laureate of many competitions and scholarships, including first prizes at the National Concerto Competition (New Zealand) and the North Queensland Concerto Competition (Australia), Beth has established herself as one of New Zealand's notable pianists.

After completing her studies in New Zealand and Germany, Beth was an invited pianist at music festivals across the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy where she received critical acclaim for her “mature, assured performance of elegance and power”. Her performances with orchestras such as the Wellington City Orchestra, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, and the Neues Telemann Kammerorchester have established her as a soloist with the ability to connect with audiences.

Since returning to Wellington in 2017, Beth has continued to maintain ongoing collaborations with New Zealand’s well-known musicians from New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington and New Zealand String Quartet. As the founding member of the acclaimed Duo Enharmonics, she has undertaken several extensive national tours and performed at festivals and concert series across New Zealand. In 2025 The Duo appeared as double piano soloists with the Wairua Sinfonietta in Auckland.

Alongside her performance career, Beth is deeply committed to educating future generations of pianists, serving as an Artist Teacher at the New Zealand School of Music Te Kōkī , Victoria University, and an active member of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers New Zealand. She leads masterclasses and coaches aspiring musicians in music programs, fostering their growth through dedicated teaching and mentorship.
